All the Details
Monika (@sweettoothfarmdsm) created Vegetable Academy in 2022. She said yes when Jenn (@piedpiperstudios) asked to come season it with song that summer. Vegetable Academy is a monthly free outdoor event sharing access, play, and pressure-free interaction with fresh food to all families.
Location:
The Supply Hive Community Garden
(directly adjacent to Edna Griffin Park)
Dates and Time:
May 20th at 3:00pm
June 17th at 3:00pm
July 15th at 3:00pm
August 19th at 3:00pm
September 16th at 3:00pm
October 21st at 3:00pm
Recommended Ages: All ages are welcome! Though some of the activities and tasting opportunities may be best suited to hands-on interaction for 2 years and up, we love seeing babies and young toddlers too. Being together, enjoying the outdoors, gathering around food, and playing in community is for everyone and all ages.
What to Expect:
Each month features a different seasonal veggie that we'll sing, move, play, taste, explore, touch, smell, interact with, and learn about. We'll use all of our senses so that children can engage in the process playfully and in the way they choose. Our time in the garden will start with shared music making with Miss Jenn and then transition to hands-on creating and veggie interaction with Monika. We suggest wearing clothes you don't mind getting messy in. Opportunities to snack on and taste the month's veggie will also be provided along with a recipe for families to take home. This is a zero food-shaming and zero health-shaming environment. We'll explore a variety of food preparations. One preparation is not morally superior to another.
