Jennifer Horak-Hult, Director

Jenn is passionately committed to bringing quality foundational music instruction into the lives of children and their families.   She received her licensure as a Kindermusik Educator in 2003 and became Program Coordinator of a Kindermusik program serving over 100 families in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois in 2005.   Upon moving to the Des Moines area, she was excited to combine both her love of teaching Kindermusik and her wish to expand her private voice studio by opening Pied Piper Studios, LLC in the fall of 2006.  


Jenn holds a B.M. in Vocal Performance from Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota where she graduated summa cum laude in 2001 with departmental distinction.   She completed graduate level course work at both the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.   Her teachers include Dr. Donald Simonson, Margaret Eaves-Smith, George Vassos, and Cynthia Haymon.   She is a three-time regional NATS Competition winner and has participated in master classes with Elly Ameling, Dawn Upshaw, Mary Ann Hart, Jerry Hadley, and Sherrill Milnes.   She was the University of Illinois' 2005 recipient of the Grace Wilson Award for Beautiful Singing.   Jenn made her operatic debut in 1997 as Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte .   Her most recent operatic role was that of Cunegonde in Bernstein's Candide . She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda and the Music Teacher's National Association.


When she's not teaching, Jenn is at home singing and playing with her son, Leif, and enjoying the company of her husband and accompanist, Erik.   

 
 
 

Amy Dix, Licensed Educator

Amy has a deep commitment to providing children and their families with a strong foundation of music. She received her licensure as a Kindermusik Educator and joined Pied Piper Studios in 2008 and is excited to enter the Kindermusik classroom to help families share the joy of music and movement.


Amy holds a B.M. in Vocal Performance from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, completed coursework for a M.M. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio, and M.E. coursework from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. She taught classroom music to children from preschool through eighth grade in the Chicago area.
